Marsha Adams, Pioneer, background and publicity
Science Digest Article 1982: Article that pioneers the idea that impending earthquakes emit extremely low frequency (ELF) electromagnetic radiation and that ELF can be used to forecast earthquakes. Geoscientists had previously measured DC (static) magnetic fields along faults, but this article describes Adams hypothesis that time-varying electromagnetic fields were key. This article was the result of a media blitz that resulted from premature release of the hypothesis by the Director of the Governor's Earthquake Preparedness Task Force (CA) to the San Francisco Chronicle before publication in a scientific journal. Adams served on the Task Force for two years and testified twice before the California State Legislature.
